11 OCT 2000, (India Infoline) Czech auto maker Tatra A.S, is planning to set up a heavy truck engine manufacturing facility in India, utilising its 50: 50 joint venture with UK based Venus Udyog. An investment to the tune of Rs500mn is planned for the project. The joint venture company Tatra Udyog currently has a heavy duty commercial vehicle assembly unit at Hosur near Bangalore. According to Tatra A.S, it will initially solely manufacture the truck engines in India and than transfer the technology to its joint venture company. On Monday, an MOU was signed with Tatra Udyog by the parent company for the transfer of technology. Further the company plans to make India an export hub for tapping the Asian and Russian markets.
