Jan Jurkovič was appointed interim director of the Kopřivnice Regional Museum

15. 12. 2017 16:02

On 13 December he became the director of the Regional Museum in Kopřivnice, ops Jan Jurkovič. The former director of the museum, Lumír Kaválek, finished the position.Unanimously, the board of directors of the museum, together with the representatives of the city of Kopřivnice and the TATRA TRUCKS car maker, decided to do so.

Josef Jurkovič was appointed interim director of the Koprivnice Regional Museum

Mgr. Ing. Jan Jurkovič, head of TATRA TRUCKS’s property investment and asset management division, will hold office temporarily before a new managerial candidate is selected.

The Board of Directors on Personnel Change states: “We thank Lumír Kaválek for his work as director of the museum during his years of work. The Board of Directors, however, is quite united in the need to make this personnel change. The museum needs a man who is able to communicate with its founders and museum partners in a standard and non-confidential way and who will participate in fulfilling the vision of two technical museums that are gradually being implemented in Koprivnica, one focused on passenger cars and the other on freight and utility. “

The museum’s management board assumes that finding a suitable candidate to run the museum for a long time will last for several months.

The region is preparing a new museum of cars in Kopřivnice

Sept. 2017. Ostrava – The Moravian-Silesian Region wants to build a car museum in Kopřivnice in Novojičín, which would be followed by a successful exhibition of the Technical Museum. People could get acquainted with the history of Tatra production. Regional representatives today approved a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Region, the City of Kopřivnice and Tatra Trucks on this project, Deputy Governor Lukáš Curylo (KDU-ČSL) told reporters.

“We would like to have a museum built in the former production hall in Kopřivnice, this is a brownfield that is currently unused, and we have received 123 million crowns from the European Union,” said Curylo.

According to him, the museum should introduce the history of the production of Tatra cars, especially trucks, which are located in the warehouses, and people do not have the opportunity to see them. “The repaired building will feature unique museum exhibits that Tatra has left free to use for thirty years,” said Curylo. The museum could welcome the first visitors in 2020.

The region is counting on the reconstruction of an unused industrial hall, whose environment is also in poor condition. “We were looking for partners to go with us, and in the reconstruction, we started reclamating other communications or halls,” said Curylo.

According to him, Tatra Trucks should modify the space for the well-known Slovak motor gun and with the town the region wants to cooperate in building access roads and parking. The museum will be a branch of the contributory organization of the Novojičínsko Museum.

The Region has already prepared the project documentation. Next year, he wants to choose a contractor. The Kopřivnice Museum is one of the most visited museums in the region and 90,000 to 100,000 people visit it every year.

All cars were sent to Tatra’s Polygon test track where they were lined up.  The competitor were led to several Koprivnice hotels. The next day all the Tatras were on show to the public and joined by all kind of Tatras from local Tatra enthusiasts. 2017 Tatra Veteran Memorial Rally Bratislava – Vienna – Brno – Koprivnice Part 1 + VIDEO

WienKopr2017Poster

Every decade Tatra celebrates the first trip of their very first automobile from Koprivnice to Vienna by organising a rally in the reversed direction. Ther last decades it was jointly organised by the TVCC Koprivnice and the Tatra Freunde International but due to organisational problems in 2007, the TVCC Koprivnice decided to go it alone but was this year supported by the Tatra Works, who did not show interest in the Tatra classic car scene in the past. With its production going quite well, Tatra stepped in and promoted their trucks en route with several (classic) Tatra Dakar trucks on the competitors’ list.

BRATISLAVA

The Slovak capital Bratislava was chosen as the place where all Tatras gathered.

WienKopr2017Bratislava

Bratislava was left on June 22nd. Finish after a one hour drive was at the Vienna Military History Museum where the 120 Year Tatra rally (the short name) officially started. Alle competitors from Bratislava made it to Vienna and were joined by competitors who had chosen Vienna as their starting point.

Tatra renovating 1986 Paris – Dakar truck

Tatra and the restoration of the T 815 6×6 VE “Sharp II” from the Paris-Alger-Dakar rally 1986

Tatra and the restoration of the T 815 6x6 VE "Sharp II" from the Paris-Alger-Dakar rally 1986

In September, Tatra Trucks acquired one of the first Koprivnice competition specials for the Paris-Alger-Dakar marathon in 1986 and is now revealing further progress in its renovation.
Present owners of the Koprivnice carmaker do not only pay attention to its current production and future, but it also depends on supporting and saving its history as it is an integral part of the process of brand building.
Thanks to the consistent effort of Ing. Radomíra Smolka, a member of the Board of Directors of Tatra Trucks as and its technical director, was investigated by the owner of the competition car T 815 6×6 VE Ostrý-II of the serial number TNT815P17FK030641 with which the crew Zdeněk Kahánek, Miroslav Gumulec and ing. Josef Kalina with the start number 635 -Alger-Dakar 1986.
In September 2016, this vehicle was acquired in the collections of historical Tatra trucks, and restoration and reconstruction works were started immediately. At the beginning of January this year, the renovation of an exceptional vehicle was roughly in the first third of the whole schedule. It is now halfway behind, and the Koprivnice carmaker reveals further progress.
The centerpiece of the second third of the restoration and renovation work, one of the first Tatra Tattoos in Dakar, was the preparation and production of the superstructure. At the same time, work continued on completing the cabin and chassis. The support tube, the axles, the subframe and the part of the drive train are practically ready for the final finish.
Tatra Trucks states that the cab has undergone a general overhaul with the replacement of several sheet metal parts and has been fitted with an internal security frame in the 1985 version. Little surprise, for example, was the finding that the original dimensions of the tubes for the interior frame production are no longer available on the market, But luckily, the material needed has yet to be won.
The cabin already boasts a new varnish and is currently undergoing installation of internal equipment, an electric beam starting with the coating materials ending. In its original form, the special comes thanks to the 1986 modified bumper and the unique side wind deflectors. The prototypes were original and were missing after the return.
A separate chapter in the entire renovation process of the Dakar special is the superstructure. The original, which has undergone the hell of using and rebuilding under the thirty year service to several owners, remained in France. Respectfully, Jean Philipe took it back from Koprivnice back mounted on the Phoenix 8×8 Euro 6 chassis, for which the T 815 “Ostrý-II” was replaced.
As a result, according to the manufacturing documentation for standard platforms from the second half of the 1980s, it was manufactured and modified in the same way as the original ones. The whole process, of course, was not so simple, because some of the design procedures or rather the way of thinking are practically unrepeatable.
Technical Director Ing. Radomír Smolka therefore did a huge amount of work in de facto reconstruction of the whole body, including all the interior equipment. This time, of course, in line with current trends, primarily in electronic form. Beyond the scope of his duties, the designers Helena Křížková and Jakub Machálek helped him to draw up the drawing documentation.
Production of the superstructure and their individual parts took place both in the Kopřivnice factory and in the external companies. The grid superstructure itself and tarpaulin curves with side profiles of unique dimensions were manufactured by the Ecos high-tech companies, otherwise the supplier of the Tatra Force cabins.
The final assembly is a matter of a team of colleagues at the prototype workshop and actually opens the third, final, third of the renovation of this specialty. Renovation workshop is coordinated by Petr Gilar, one of the best test drivers of Tatra vehicles, an employee of the Vehicle Examination and Homologation Department.
In the seventeenth week, the outsourced company was commissioned to produce the sail and the graphics of all advertising stickers and starting numbers were completed to complete the look of the refurbished car.
The dedicated places in the warehouse are already filled with accessories, which eventually “sharp-II” make their way to the final state.
The pedal boats that have been saved from the barn in France have undergone repassion and got the final white lacquer. The pedal plates themselves had to be made from 6 mm aluminum material all over again, as the original ones still serve somewhere in West Africa. Directly from the 3D model, spherical pans were machined to fit the pedals on the levers.
Similarly, so-called “cobras” of engine suction and a whole bunch of other little things have been rebuilt and manufactured. Michelin XS 14.00-20 tires, which were made with five pairs, will definitely take on the new parts.
The Tatra T 815 6×6 VE with the starting number 635 is also interesting for the eighties and above all ABC magazine readers. It also served as a model for the top-quality paper model made by the architect Richard Vyškovský. The 1:32 racing truck had wheels on the swinging arms and copied perfectly the terrain that was passing over.
The sister car with the starting number 634, however, was a model for the 1:48 scale Monti System, which is still available on Vista.

Tatra museum collection spread over two buildings?

no comment Posted by smitkees
“We support the idea that in Koprivnice Tatra was two museums, each with a specific focus,” says TATRA TRUCKS shareholder and owner of the holding company PROMET GROUP René Matera.
Representatives of TATRA TRUCKS, MSR, Novojičínsko Museum, City of Koprivnica and the National Technical Museum recently signed a memorandum on cooperation in the preservation and popularization of technical monuments and industrial history of the Moravian-Silesian region. The memorandum confirms the intention, the parallel between the two museums with an exhibition Tatras. “This is not just about Tatra, but also about the development of tourism in the Moravian region because of its rich industrial history,” says René Matera.
Memorandum welcomes the mayor Kopřivnice Miroslav Kopečný who signed the memorandum for the city. “Kopřivnice is proud to be the seat of one of the world’s oldest automakers. Museum exhibitions, which essentially map out the history of the automobile from the late 19th century, makes our city an attractive tourist destination and internationally, “says Mayor Koprivnice.
The existence of two major exhibitions side by side allows large amounts of Tatra veterans that are available to shareholders by investing in the acquisition of new exhibits and private collections throughout. Radek Strouhal, TATRA TRUCKS Vice Chairman and CFO Enterprise, says: “In 2015 we invested in the purchase of a large private collection of Mr. George Hlacha, which includes 63 vehicles, 45 of the Tatras. Another valuable catch a Tatra 815 6×6 VE, sharp-II ‘, a special for the Dakar 1986, which we obtained from a private owner in exchange for a new Tatra Phoenix. “Given the filled capacity of the existing Technical Museum in Koprivnice is not currently where these valuable exhibits exhibit.
Implementation of the project of the new museum Tatras is dependent on funding from subsidies from European funds applied for by the Moravian-Silesian region. Information about whether a grant application was successful, should be known in early 2017.
