About one-sixth of the output is sold on the Czech market and the rest is exported. Car sales increased by 0.5 pct. Passenger cars output grew by 1.5 pct to 443,000 units. Bus output rose 11 pct to 1,983 units, and the production of trailers and semi-trailers rose 60 pct to 2,689 units. “Other categories of vehicles saw a fall in output, small utility vehicles by 14.2 pct, motorcycles and mopeds by 18.3 pct, and lorries by 5.5 pct,” said Sipek. However, lorry maker Tatra Koprivnice raised output by 15 pct to 1,654 units. Home sales and exports were up 2,530 units at 460,437 vehicles. “Home sales dropped 8.7 pct, but exports grew by 2.3 pct,” said Sipek. Overall, the Czech market absorbed 132,973 new passenger cars last year. Czech car maker Skoda Auto controlled about 50 pct of the market. Another 100,000 used cars were imported to the country in the first nine months of the year.
