OSTRAVA- Lorry maker Tatra Koprivnice sold 1,053 vehicles in 2005, up 10 percent from 2004, and expects a further growth in the number this year, board of directors chairman Igor Vlcek said.

The company is now working on an order for the Slovak military. Decision on a multi-billion order for about 1,000 all-terrain vehicles for the Czech military has not been made yet. In early February, the Defence Ministry asked Tatra to submit its offer within a month. Sale of components for the assembly of lorries abroad fell by two-thirds to 256 units mainly due to the political situation in India, the main buyer, said Vlcek. Tatra invested some Kc80m last year and plans to invest even more this year. Financial results for 2005 will be released only after they are audited, said Vlcek. In 2004, Tatra netted Kc794m, after a loss of Kc485m the year before. Tatra is majority-owned by US company Terex Corporation, which bought 10 percent of shares from Vectra Limited in March 2005 and raised it stake to 80.51 percent. Vectra Limited still has 11.11 percent of Tatra shares and the rest is in the hands of small owners.
